TAYLOR HIGH SCHOOL first-year debate team turns in outstanding performances


This is the first year for the Taylor High School Debate Club and a single team of two freshmen girls turned in an impressive performance throughout the season.

Kaylee Fretenborough and Miranda Hontz debated in the Novice Public Forum division and took on teams from around Michigan at invitationals in West Bloomfield, Detroit, Birmingham, Holt and Dexter.

Kaylee and Miranda won 12 out of 17 debates; reached elimination rounds three times, and brought home three trophies.

Additionally, Kaylee won awards for being named among the top speakers at two tournaments.

The club will be at the state finals in Dexter next Saturday, this time with two additional teams made up of freshmen Trinity Coleman and Gwendolyn Crawford, and Shawn Ronan, Jr. and Nate Walker.
