HOOVER BAND, TRUMAN JROTC featured during Armed Forces Day

The 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day was held in Taylor City Hall May 12. It was moved indoors because of the heavy rains.

The Hoover Middle School Band provided the musical entertainment. Stephanie Krueger again served as master of ceremonies and the Truman High School JROTC presented the colors.

Featured speaker was Major Gen. Clark W. LeMasters Jr. The special honoree was former U.S. Rep. John Dingell, who served in World War II. A large crowd packed the City Council Chambers and the atrium area.

A large group of City officials were on hand, including Mayor Rick Sollars. Also on hand were U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, State Rep. Erika Geiss and Wayne County Commissioner Ray Basham. Armed Forces Day in Taylor remembers all veterans of all eras, including those residents who gave their lives during the various wars and those veterans who recently passed away over the past year.

WALL TO WALL ACADEMIES, other changes, explained in flyer

The Taylor School District is undergoing some of its biggest changes in decades.

It offers a wonderful flyer explaining the introduction next year of "Wall to Wall Academies."

The programs -- SHAPE, PLACE, BELIEF AND STEAM -- offer families an opportunity to enroll their children in programs that will be beneficial to them long-term.
