WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL students gain from Metropark experience

Mr. Justin Smith, a biologist, from the Metroparks system engaged eighth-grade science West Middle School students in environmental studies.

During a two-session lesson the students investigated our schoolyard ecosystem. The students learned to take soil, temperature, light, humidity and wind measurements.

These lessons continue to reinforce the science curriculum objectives for middle school. But most importantly, the staff at West Middle School hopes to instill a lifelong love of nature. The physical and emotional health benefits of enjoying the outdoors are significant.

We are very grateful to the Metroparks system for selecting West Middle School to receive this grant from the 3M Corporation. West is committed to enriching the educational experience of our students by bringing in additional speakers and presentations throughout the school year.
