IMPACTING STORY shares experiences of opioid abuse

Via Jessica Strachan of The News-Herald Newspapers

Twenty-six-year old Shelby Chaltry of Taylor remembers the moment she was first offered heroin.

It wasn’t her first time experimenting with drugs and it wasn’t going to be her last.

“I decided to go out one night with friends and someone offered me heroin,” she told ninth-graders at Truman High School on Thursday during a morning assembly on opioid awareness. “It didn’t take much convincing on his part. I let him shoot me up right there on the side of the road in my car.”

She remembers that moment, but nothing after.
