HOLLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL youngsters learn about food allergies

Mrs. Scarpace's kindergarten friends at Holland Elementary School learned a valuable lesson about Halloween – not all children can enjoy the sweets and candy when you say, "Trick-or-Treat!"

Some children have food allergies preventing them from even going trick-or-treating. So how do we make Halloween safe and fun for everyone? Enter the Teal Pumpkin Project!

The class learned that a teal pumpkin means it is a house giving away non-food items! That way all children can enjoy Halloween. The children painted teal pumpkins in support of a classmate who has severe food allergies. These impressionable 5 year olds learned a meaningful lesson about food and friendship.
