DECA STUDENTS have tremendous showing in district competition

By Carly Lundgren-Barnard
Truman High School Marketing and Department Head

I am very proud of our DECA marketing students  this year. They competed at Eastern Michigan University on January 8 during district competition.

They were all dressed professionally and behaved in a professional manner. We received plenty of compliments by other adults on our students while at the event.

Eighteen of our students qualified for the national competition.

Amario Massey, Cindy Nyarko, George Felix, Alexandra Rice and Kirsten Collett will compete in the role play/interview/test categories at state competition in March.

Rachel Trombetta, Bianca Warner, Linda Szabo, Alexa Bailey, Luke Deshano, Brett Rideout, Ethan Mulready, Christian Hernandez, Brendan Hoffman, Daniel Andrade, Harkarin Sembhi, Da'kyra Mghee-Monk and Sara Sherazi will compete in the written event/presentation categories at state competition in March.

Bianca Warner has been accepted to a leadership academy at the national career conference in Nashville, Tenn., in April.

I am very proud of Warner’s accomplishments through the marketing program the last three years. She started as a sophomore and has shown so much growth and dedication for learning, marketing and business education. This is a great opportunity for her.

Special thanks to the administration and staff for all of their support. They supported the students, our fundraisers and this awesome program. Thank you to Rita Zalewski, Shayna Hale, Kerrie Voorheis and Stephen Weatherholt for being chaperones and judges.
