TAYLOR PARKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Going back in time

Yes, Taylor Parks Elementary School has seen students make butter -- take a little jar, add some cream and shake.  But for one group of students it went a bit differently.

Mrs. Sheila Lee, ATA at Taylor Parks, has a special reading group that has been reading together since the fall.  These second graders have been reading books that challenge even the best of readers.
So after finishing “Little House in the Big Woods,” by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and reading her biography, Mrs. Lee took her readers back in time … following a page right out of the book.

Each student was involved in making butter by using an old fashioned churn.  Taking turns moving the plunger up and down it took a little over an hour and a lot of muscle power, to create this butter.  Once done, they all enjoyed the sweet creation on some whole wheat bread.
