TAYLOR HIGH SCHOOL DECA holds first financial reality fair

Last week marked Taylor High School’s first DECA financial reality fair.

Approximately 150 students were invited to participate in a financial reality fair held in the gym. It had over 50 volunteers come in from six local credit unions to help the students with financial advice to prepare them for their future.

Thank you to administration for allowing this event to happen, gym teachers for allowing us the use of the gym, and staff for allowing students to attend.

We also were able to raise over 500 ounces of canned food for our Griffin food pantry and we look forward next year. The students completed exit surveys for us and wanted to share some of their comments.

When asked what they liked best about the Fair, they responded:
  • This opportunity provided me with realistic vision on adulthood. Today provided me an experience I couldn't get in a classroom setting
  • This was AMAZING! Keep doing what you are doing, this was seriously AMAZING!!!!!
  • Today I learned food is like really expensive, like really, really expensive.
  • Adulting and money is hard but manageable.
  • This was a fantastic learning experience. Now I know what to do when I’m older. My favorite part of today was learning the difference between necessities, wants and needs. You need to figure out what is more important before buying something.
