WEATHER ALERT: Taylor Recreation Center opens as warming center on Sunday, February 15, due to DTE outages


The Taylor Recreation Center will open at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, February 15, as a warming center, thanks to reported power outages in the City of Taylor.
The center is located at 22805 Goddard, near the corner of Goddard Road and Pardee.

Residents are welcome to bring towels, etc. in case they want to sauna and/or shower at the facility. Workout areas will be available, including the cardio room, walking track, etc. If you plan on showering or changing at the facility, please remember to bring a lock for you locker, if you have one.

The Taylor Sportsplex will also be open from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. if anyone wants to go there. There are open skating hours available today as well as other sporting events scheduled, and residents are welcome into the building to enjoy the events, use the concession stands, etc.

As of 7:45 this morning (February 15), DTE was reporting between 500 and 1,600 outages in the southeastern Taylor area. Some were reported just to the west of Southland Mall down Pardee Street. A wider band was reported to the east of the mall, stretching from just north of Heritage Park all the way south into Brownstown and the Sibley Road region. That band appears to run along I-75, from just north of Northline Road and Allen  In Taylor, that band stretches west to Pardee.

South of the City, that same band stretches from I-75 west to almost Beech Daly.

DTE crews are on there way Downriver to correct the problem.

Weather expects in the Detroit area are calling for a wind chill warning until noon. It is currently minus-7 degrees. Today's high will be 7 degrees with a low of minus-19. It is predicted to remain very cold throughout the week.
