HOOVER MIDDLE SCHOOL: Sen. Hopgood is third inductee into Hall of Fame

The Hoover Middle School newspaper recently inducted its third member to the school’s new Hall of Fame. The Hoover Hawks’ newspaper staff first interviews the inductees, and then they are photographed and honored with a plaque hanging in the main hallway of the building.

Hoover graduate Hoon-Yung Hopgood is a member of the Michigan State Senate. He is a Democrat and a former member of the Michigan State House of Representatives. He represents roughly half of the cities that make up the Downriver area of Metro Detroit, as well as other cities in Wayne County.

He is also the first Korean American to hold state office in Michigan.

Hoopgood’s induction follows that of Shirley Ledford (Eldridge), a registered nurse, and Mayor Rick Sollars.
