RANDALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Students and staff ramp it up for March is Reading Month

Students and staff at Randall Elementary School have been having a blast this month as they focus on reading. They have been actively reading each and every day and enjoying the following activities:

1. The theme is READ WITH A FRIEND.

2. The school is in its third year participating in ONE SCHOOL ONE BOOK (http://readtothem.org/our-programs/one-school-one-book/) – they are reading “Because of Winn Dixie” with trivia questions every morning. Past books were “The World According to Humphrey” and “Frindle.” Everyone (Lay personnel, cooks, maintenance, teachers, secretaries, etc.) in the building receives a book and reads certain chapters every night.

3. Reading minutes throughout March for prizes (picture attached, students holding book and reading bookmarks). In the past the whole school read 286,856 minutes. The goal is to beat that. They even have a teacher, Mrs. Cahalan, who is challenging her class to beat her in minutes read. So far one student is.

4. Guest Readers (Retired teacher, Rep. Doug Geiss, Kennedy High School students).

5. Book Exchange end of month.

6. Scholastic Book Fair week of March 10–13. Also open during Family Read-In.

7. Teacher decorating door or wall award: Teachers will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card for the best-represented decor for March is Reading.
