UNITED HIGH SCHOOL, WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL bands perform during opening day ceremonies

After Taylor Northwest held its opening day ceremonies a week ago, Taylor North Central, Taylor South and Taylor Northeast opened the Little League season with parades and ceremonies today (April 28).

Children from throughout the Taylor Schools participate in the four City of Taylor Little League organizations each season.

The Taylor High School united band and West Middle School marching bands were involved throughout the morning’s activities. Hoover Middle School played during the opening weekend when Taylor Northwest Little League held its ceremonies.

Central kicked off the day with a parade down Pardee to the park, where mascots from the Detroit Tigers and Toledo Mudhens were on hand along with the united Taylor High School Griffins Marching Band. President Doug Cloutier saluted several teams from last year, and honored longtime volunteer Ralph Richard, who is stepping down.

At Taylor South, the parade made its way from the Sheridan Center through Heritage Park to the Junior League World Series Field, led by the West Middle School Marching Band, where its ceremonies were held.

Finally, at Northeast, new President Nicole Underwood was introduced to a large crowd that braved the chilly day.

Mayor Richard Sollars, City Council members Alex Garza, Dan Bzura and Caroline Patts and State Rep. Erika Geiss (and husband Doug) were in attendance. Mrs. Patts is a para-professional librarian at Randall Elementary School.

Now its time to play ball!
