TRUMAN HIGH SCHOOL: Farewell assembly draws huge crowd


Truman High School celebrated its Class of 2017 on June 8 during its Farewell Assembly in a packed gymnasium.

Ken Nelson of the Taylor Public Schools Educational Foundation awarded scholarships to Julie McCloud ($500, Changing Lives Scholarship); Sarina Holmes-Johnson ($1,250, Charles Dickelman University of Michigan Scholarship); Janaid Hussain Syed ($500, DFCU Scholarship); Raelyn Maroney ($500, Mayor Rick Sollars Scholarship); Brandon Copple (Taylor Ministries Making a Difference Scholarship); and Sicely Jeffery ($500, Taylor Public Schools Educational Foundation Scholarship).

Also awarded were McCloud ($500, Taylor School District Alumni Scholarship and $750 Dedication and Service Scholarship); Vanessa Balderas ($500, Total Community Credit Union Scholarship); Cierra Pace ($500, Women’s Auxiliary of the Democratic Club of Taylor Scholarship); Sidra Siddiqui ($500, A.J. Webb Memorial Scholarship); Jeffery ($500, Taylor Police Auxiliary Scholarship); and Amario Massey ($750 Marriott Scholarship).

Many others were recognized: student council, valedictorians and salutatorians, honor students, perfect attendance, outstanding male and female, music, Link Leader, etc.

Near the end, Class President Raelyn Maroney handed off the gavel to Class of 2018 President Chase Nester.
