KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL senior Kierstin Mascaro honored by City Council

Kennedy High School senior Kierstin Mascaro was honored for more than just graduating from high school this week.

On Tuesday night, Mascaro and members of the Kennedy softball team were at Taylor City Hall. The City Council honored Mascaro for aiding a fallen teammate recently during a softball practice.

Coach Lanny Hall, who is also an employee of the city, said that recently, during a practice, the Lady Eagles catcher was hit in the facemask with a foul tip. The play stunned the player, who retired to the bench. It was an usually hot day, and the catcher eventually passed out and stopped breathing.

As the coaches called 9-1-1, Kierstin went into action and administered CPR.

City Council members found out about the issue via social media and honored Mascaro with a proclamation, read by Councilman Alex Garza. Mascaro, who opened the council meeting by leading the Pledge of Alliance, received a loud ovation during the ceremony -- and thanks her teammate.

Hats off to KHS graduating senior!
