A
British soldier, a musician, a Continental soldier, and a field surgeon came to
Taylor Parks Elementary School to pay a visit to the fifth graders that have
been studying the American Revolution in social studies.
Mrs.
Sheila Lee, an ATA at Taylor Parks, along with her son, Dalton Lee,
college student, Joseph Lee, her father in-law, and Ryan Barbasa, also a college
student, explained uniforms from a British unit and American Unit from the
Revolutionary War.
Mrs.
Bergeron, fifth-grade teacher, was dressed as a camp follower. She
portrayed a woman from the time period that would work in the camps, feeding,
sewing and doing laundry for the troops.
Joseph
Lee told the students about common medical treatments for injured or sick
soldiers during the 18th century. Lee is also an illustrator for
many historical books. The fifth graders enjoyed interaction with the presenters and
asked great questions.
The
visiting "soldiers" will be at For Wayne, Detroit on June 13 and 14.
They will join many more re-enactors that weekend from the American
Revolutionary War period.
