WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL shakes like an earthquake

On April 18 the eight-grade Earth Science program at West Middle School did a lab on simulations of an earthquake. The lab was called “Shake and Roll.”

The students had to use jelly gum drops and toothpicks. Students had to build a two-story building structured to withhold an earthquake. Teachers find how long their structure withheld the results of an earthquake.

Some structures lasted only one or two seconds, and other structures students built withheld the earthquake for a minute and 41 seconds.

Students had a great experience doing the lab shake and roll. Mrs. Pasek-Colley, Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Bochenrk helped each eighth-grade classroom out.

HOLLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL children get the raw egg treatment

At Holland Elementary School, if you have ever read “Ramona Quimby, Age 8,” then you know all about the hard-boiled egg fad.

Well the second graders at Holland tried cracking eggs on their heads too, but some were raw ... just like Ramona's!

HOLLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL pupils have fun learning measurements

The second graders at Holland Elementary School are learning about measurements and they are having so much fun!

MCDOWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL enjoyed reading favorites

“Favorites” was the "March is Reading Month" theme at McDowell Elementary School.

Each classroom was asked to work on a display board based on their favorite book throughout the month and then take turns presenting their board during television announcements. The students did a great job of speaking with enthusiasm about their special project.

KINYON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL turns into a sea of blue

Kinyon Elementary School brought autism awareness home this year.

The school was a sea of blue on April 6 as students joined an assembly to learn more about autism.  Kinyon has two ASD classrooms in its “family.”  

The school is proud of the program. A huge “thank you” to Sue Duprey, Deb Abbott, Angie Booth and Jessica Fessler for making the amazing event possible.

EUREKA HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL receives visit from orchestra

The Michigan Philharmonic Orchestra recently made a visit to Eureka Heights Elementary School and performed for the fourth-grader pupils.

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL chorus teacher earns grant

On April 14 West Middle School chorus teacher Mr. Martin was surprised to be awarded a $300 "Classroom makeover" grant thanks to Natalie Saad of the MEEMIC Omni Insurance Agency.  

He was presented with the grant to use on equipment or supplies for his classroom, a "Congratulations!" cake and something he's always wanted – a giant check!  Mr. Martin is currently polling his students for ideas on what to purchase.
