On
April 18 the eight-grade Earth Science program at West Middle School did a lab on simulations of an
earthquake. The lab was called “Shake and Roll.”
The
students had to use jelly gum drops and toothpicks. Students had to build a
two-story building structured to withhold an earthquake. Teachers find how long
their structure withheld the results of an earthquake.
Some
structures lasted only one or two seconds, and other structures students built
withheld the earthquake for a minute and 41 seconds.
Students
had a great experience doing the lab shake and roll. Mrs. Pasek-Colley, Mrs.
Gibson and Mrs. Bochenrk helped each eighth-grade classroom out.
