WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL students travel to Indian Springs

On February 28, Mrs. Schulte’s seventh-grade classes from West Middle School went to Indian Springs Metropark.

This trip was sponsored by a partnership between Indian Springs Metropark and the 3M Corporation. Students broke into groups to investigate a question as part of the scientific method. They collected data to help answer their question. Further research was needed.

A second data collection time is scheduled for April. Eventually, the students will formally present their findings in May.

It’s a great day to be a Griffin!

TAYLOR HIGH SCHOOL girls led by Busch's 10 points in loss

Recently the Taylor High School girls’ basketball team faced Dearborn Henry Ford Academy and lost 70-37. HFA led 42-32 at the end of the third quarter but caught fire in the fourth quarter, making four three-point baskets on their way to 28 points.

Leading the way for the Griffins in the varsity game were the following players:

• Avery Busch 10 points (Three three-pointers in the third quarter)
• Oretha Cooper 10 points (8-16 free throws)
• Betsy Egler 6 points
• Taneicea Burleigh 3 points
• Amiah Thomas 2 points
• Brooklynn Swindle 2 points
• Brenda Egler 2 points

The girls will next take to the court at Allen Park against Wyandotte Roosevelt in the first round of the MHSAA district tournament.

MCDOWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL enjoys trip to The Henry

Mrs. Vanderworp's McDowell Elementary School third-grade class loved their field trip to the Henry Ford Museum recently. They especially liked the Rosa Parks bus.

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL gets a special visit

West Middle School was honored to have Mr. Frank Demare speak to sixth graders recently.

Mr. Demare, who goes by the nickname Scooter, was born with a physical condition that affects his arms and legs. But Scooter has met his physical challenges with determination to overcome any limitations.  

As he addressed the students, he encouraged them to continue to work hard, never give up and above all to be grateful for their individuality. Most importantly, Scooter said we must treat everyone with kindness.

     

Scooter told the sixth-grade classes that just as the main character in the book and movie “Wonder,” Augie wanted acceptance and friends.  He said that is what everyone wants.  Scooter encouraged the students to follow their passion.

For Scooter, it was sports, where he excelled as a top rated tennis player in high school and college. The students thank Scooter for sharing his life experiences and hope to gain strength from Scooter’s message, that all things are possible with hard work and determination.

TAYLOR PARKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL celebrates 100 days

For the 100th day of school at Taylor Parks Elementary School classes from Mrs. Said and Mrs. Abramas classes made 100 fruit loop necklaces, 100 yummy snacks, a "100 days brighter" crown, 101 Dalmatians and floats.
