Kennedy
High School was packed with students and families for the 2016 honors assembly
June 9.
Many
scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors, while others in the class were
singled out for special achievements, whether it was individually or in groups,
Included
among the many award winners was Kevonte White, who received a $500 scholarship
from Mayor Rick Sollars. White is heading for Eastern Michigan University next
year. The mayor awards two $500 scholarships per year. White also received the
Taylor Public Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence Scholarship for
$500.
A
big winner and high achiever in the graduating class was Emily Boswell, who
earned a $2,500 Taylor Federation of Teachers
Scholarship, a $1,250 scholarship
to the University of Michigan, and the $500 Grodman Cure Foundation/Shane
Simmons Memorial Scholarship. She was also recognized for graduating with the
top GPA and was also included in the athletic honorees. She plans on majoring
in molecular biology at U of M.
Other
scholarship winners included Keri Stevenson ($500), Chandra Behr ($500 and
$250), Abigail Storage ($1,000), Jasmine Atterberry ($1,000), Spencer Furman
($500), Ashley Hernandez ($500), Matthew Hundley ($500), Aman Patel ($500) and
Sydney Moore ($500).
Both
the KHS band and choir played during the ceremony. The JROTC Honor Guard was
also present.
As
is tradition, when the Class of 2016 departed from the ceremony, the Class of
2017 took its place on the floor.
Truman
had its honors ceremony June 8 and graduated June 9 at the Sportsplex. Kennedy
graduates the Class of 2016 June 10 at the same location.
