RANDALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL gets a reading visit from the Mayor

Mayor Rick Sollars spent an hour reading to two classes at Randall Elementary School on Thursday, March 17 as part of the national "March is Reading Month" campaign.

The mayor started the day in Kelly Swed's fifth-grade class, reading a book about a boy and his shoes. The class was very attentive and, when the mayor took questions afterward, asked him 1) Whether he had ever meet President Obama (no) and 2) Whether he was voting for GOP front-runner Donald Trump (which got laughs out of everyone, including the mayor).

After spending some time talking with Principal Cindy Meszaros, Librarian Caroline Patts shuttled the mayor down to Karen Ostrowski's first-grade class, which features her grandson.

There, the mayor read a Dr. Seuss book, which the class enjoyed. The mayor spent a lengthy period of time talking with the children, including getting a high-five from a boy wearing a Michigan State jersey.

Mayor Sollars, a Michigan fan, made a crack about the shirt when he entered the room, but Mrs. Ostrowski set him straight by firmly mentioning that she was a MSU grad and that "green" is always welcome in her classrom, not only on St. Paddy's Day.

By the way, that was a green tie the mayor was wearing ...
