A
benefit fundraiser, "Taylor Joining Hands," is being held for former
Mayor Jeffrey Lamarand's family from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, November 20, at
the Taylor Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 11590 Pine.
Donations will be
accepted at the door.
The
former mayor, 45, who died on October 19 while working on his new home in
Dexter, served a four-year term that ended last November. Before that, he was a
member of City Council. After his election defeat, he returned to the Crestwood
School District in Dearborn Heights, where he had been a long-time teacher
before taking a leave of absence to serve as Taylor's mayor.
Community
leaders have gathered in an effort to raise funds for the family, which
includes wife Mishelle and two young children.
"We'd
love to have a big crowd there to celebrate Jeff's life and help his family in
any way we can," Mayor Rick Sollars said. "Losing Jeff at such an
early age was stunning to all of us. So we've banded together to put this event
on and we've already had some generous donations. We hope that the public joins
us on November 20th."
The
fund-raiser includes a cash bar, food, entertainment provided by "Girls
Night Out" and prizes such as tickets to sporting events, iPads and an
auction for a $4,500 credit voucher that can be used toward a vehicle at Taylor
Chevrolet.
