BLAIR MOODY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: February brings out the beautiful artwork, thanks to the Art Club

The month of February brought the opportunity for willing third graders to participate in Art Club at Blair Moody Elementary School.

Mrs. McLaughlin met with students for four weeks and each week they were able to create a priceless, new, one-of-a-kind piece of art.

The students worked with oils, chalk, pastels and watercolors to produce the treasured works of art.  Using straws and black watercolors, mysterious trees were designed.  

Other projects focused on creating patterns using paper wrapped around pencils to create colorful twirls.

March ushers in the fourth graders to Art Club. Staff and students alike look forward to the fabulous creations about to unfold.

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL: MSVMA President Armstead runs clinic for choral students

Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) President Doug Armstead presented a full-day clinic in late February for chorus students at West Middle School.  

Working with students on music they were set to present at District Choral Festival, Mr. Armstead helped with movement and presentation, tone and shaping, and even introduced a few new fun warm ups.  

The students enjoyed a follow-up coaching by Mr. Armstead at their pre-festival concert on Tuesday, March 4.

HOOVER MIDDLE SCHOOL: Gibson's seventh-grade wins Black History Month competition

Hoover Middle School students participated in a Black History Month competition during the month of February.  

The enrichment classes worked together to figure out from short descriptions the famous African American that was being described.

After completing the form as a class all entries were judged for accuracy. Ms. Gibson's seventh-grade class was the overall school winner.

EUREKA HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Rep. Geiss reads on!

State Rep. Doug Geiss read to Eureka Heights Elementary School fifth- graders during March is Reading Month.

HOLLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Gather up and let's start reading!

Holland Elementary School recently kicked off “Reads Across America!”

To kick off March is Reading Month the pupils at Holland participated in the National Education Association's “Read Across America” event. All of the children met in the cafeteria with books to read.  

Mrs. Madden and Mrs. Robinson, Reading Month coordinators, spoke to the group about all of the fun things the school would be doing this month. Then, all of the students and staff members opened their books and got busy reading.

It was a beautiful sight to see so many people reading at one time. Imagine what it would look like to see that around the entire country.

KINYON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Hail to the Victors!

TAYLOR PARKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: It's time to have some fun with reading

Reading can be a fiesta at Taylor Parks Elementary School. In fact, that’s the theme because March is Reading Month.  

The students in Mrs. Abramas' class are making their own paper mache Pinata, with the help of Ms. Kathy, classroom aide.  

Using a balloon as a form, the students have been tearing strips of newspaper to mix with flour and water. The students then place layer after layer, several times over.  It is a work in progress.  

At the end of the month, after reading lots and lots of books, the students will then brake open the Pinata and enjoy the goodies hidden inside.
