HOOVER MIDDLE SCHOOL holds mini relay

Hoover Middle School participated in a mini Relay for Life on May 11.  Cancer has touched many lives and the students found in their hearts to give to the cause. Fun was had by all who participated.

MCDOWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL goes to the birds

Ms. Bochenek's kindergarten class at McDowell Elementary School worked hard on creating these “Bird-a-ful” painted birdhouses for Mother's Day.  They were sure to please!

CAREER CENTER holds second cleanup day

The Second Annual Career Center Campus Clean Up Day was a great success.  NTHS members not only spruced up the grounds but also earned community service hours.  

CAREER CENTER classes apply first aid skills

In late April, Mrs. Smith's Nursing Assistant classes at the Career Center applied the first aid skills they've learned to an active disaster drill lab.  

The scenario was a gas line explosion in a busy medical clinic. After dividing into "victim" and "responder" teams, the students worked through the process of triage (prioritizing medical care based upon critical injury assessment.)  

A third team of students acted as the moulage and staging team, applying makeup and prosthetic injuries to lend realism to the activity. 

Moulage is the art of applying mock injuries for the purpose of training Emergency Response Teams and other medical and military personnel.

The "responders" assessed their "patients" and identified their status ranging from healthy and uninjured to deceased.  After assessing, triage and treating; the class gathered to review their findings and collaborate on what they learned.

CAREER CENTER hosts Advisory Meeting

Earlier this month the Taylor Career Center held its Spring Advisory Meeting.

The purpose of the Advisory Meeting is to bring CTE instructors together with business, industry, parents, former students, community leaders and secondary institutions. Each CTE program works with their Advisory Team on how to best prepare students to be career ready.

Among our community partners were:

• Taylor School District Superintendent Ben Williams
• Asst Superintendent of Taylor Schools Dr. Mary Ann Cyr
• Taylor Board of Education member Deborah Stellini

The food for the evening was provided by Chef Ostrowski's Culinary Arts program. 

The program is extremely grateful to all our Advisory members for donating their time and expertise. The next Advisory Meeting will be held later in the spring.
