RANDALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL brings heroes to life

Fifth-grade students at Randall Elementary School recently brought history to life.

They ranged from Sally Ride to Ken Griffey Jr., Amelia Earhart, Anne Frank, Dr. Martin Luther King and even Malcolm X. Students spent time reading and researching someone famous who they considered to be a hero. Students were then responsible for creating a display, preparing a presentation and writing a report about the famous person.

In May 19, fifth graders dressed as their heroes and shared their presentations. Students and parents were invited to the gym to view the "museum" displays and to hear presentations from the "wax figures.” 

All of the students did an outstanding job!

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL choir to perform at Detroit Tigers' game in September

West Middle School’s top choir, the Cardinal Singers, has been selected to perform "The Star Spangled Banner" at Comerica Park for the Tigers’ game on Friday, September 9. It starts at 7:10 p.m.  

Tigers selected the choir after watching of video of one of their performances. West staff hopes that lots of parents, teachers and students can come out and support the choir that night. 

RANDALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL has a fun day ... literally!

June 13th was Randall Elementary School's annual Fun Day and everyone had a blast!

The PTA set up two movie rooms, two bingo rooms, two game rooms and a reading room where students could take a free book.

Students had the following chances: slide down three enormous blow-up slides or toss a basketball in one; create their own flavor of Kona frozen ice; play kickball; do the egg relay; throw the football through the hole; play tic tac toe; and participate in the Frisbee toss.  

Two of the most popular activities were the soak guns and plastic cup game, and the DJ in the gym for dancing.

The staff was happy to have parent volunteers helping with the games and staff were on duty in various places. The Randall staff and students would like to give a big thank you to our parent club for all their hard work to making Fun Day “FUN!”

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL rocks out the school year

West Middle School recently said farewell to its bandleaders. On June 1, the West Marching Band performed their last concert of the year. During this concert, the eighth graders played their farewell song, “Sweet Caroline,” for the very last time. 

Rock N’ Roll was the bands theme this year and they rocked the year out to such hits as “Any Way You Want It,” “Walk Like A Man,” “December of 1963,” “Fun Fun Fun,” and “Surfin USA.”

Students received such awards as The Directors Award, Woody Herman Jazz Award and the Patrick S. Gilmore Award.

SIGN UP NOW for Safety Town (June 27-July 1) at SGA

Safety Town 2016, brought to you to the Taylor Police Department, is scheduled for morning and afternoon sessions from June 27-July 1 at the Sixth Grade Academy, 13500 Pine Street. Morning sessions are from 10-noon and afternoon sessions are from 1-3.

Safety Town is a weeklong program that teaches children how to be safe in their community. It uses hands-on activities taught in a small, pretend town to teach children about the many aspects of safety and injury prevention. Issues like traffic, personal and fire safety will be taught. The program includes a field trip to the Taylor Fire Department. 

Safety Town is designed for children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2016.

Cost is $20 per child per session. Each child receives a Safety Town T-Shirt, art supplies, course material and snacks. 

Turn in all registration materials will your registration fees in an envelope marked "Taylor Safety Town" at the front desk of the police department. Space is limited, to register soon.

TAYLOR PARKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Fifth-graders leave the nest

What a great day for the fifth-graders at Taylor Parks Elementary School.

It's a big deal when the oldest kids leave the nest as they did today . It started with a “Clap Out.”  All the students and staff lined the hallways and gave the fifth-graders a huge round of applause on their way to the lunchroom, where a favorite meal of pizza, breadsticks, juice and popsicles was waiting.  

To top it all off, a trip followed to Skore Lanes for some bowling. Everyone at Taylor Parks wish all students future success.
