TRUMAN HIGH SCHOOL business law students hold mock trial and gain tremendous experience

The business law students at Truman High School recently participated in a simulated “Mock Trial” held at “Truman District Court.”

Holding a mock trial in the classroom is a hands-on teaching method that allows students to gain insight into the trial process and courtroom procedures. It challenges students analytical and communication skills.

They used the tools learned throughout the trimester to research and conduct the trial. Students participated in the trial by taking on the roles of plaintiff, defendant, attorney, witness, court reporter, judge and jury members.

They practiced opening and closing statements, giving testimony, direct and cross examination of witnesses and finally a jury deliberation. As a result of the students’ hard work and dedication they gained an insight into how the legal system deals with factual and legal disputes.

The entire project allowed for students to gain an educational experience that they will remember forever and exposure to a variety of careers in law along with the fundamental law concepts such as authority and fairness, according to the teaching staff.

RANDALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL little ones make leprechaun

Mrs. Holstein's kindergarten class at Randall Elementary School has been working hard at practicing addition. They made a fun project for the hall, a leprechaun.

LITERACY AND LANGUAGE LUAU scheduled March 10

Next week is the Taylor School District’s Family Enrichment Fair, the “Literacy and Language Luau.” This year will mark the 14th year of the Literacy Luau.  It is Thursday, March 10.  It will be held at Kennedy High School.  The doors open at 4:30 and run until 7 p.m.

The Enrichment Fair has changed over the years, but the goal is the same: To connect the families of the Taylor School District with resources available in the community.  At the same time we are taking the opportunity to showcase our schools and the resources our students have while they attend the Taylor School District.

Each of the Taylor School District schools is represented throughout the hallways at the exhibit tables.  Our student music groups as well as the art programs are highlighted as well.

At the Luau, each student will have the opportunity to receive a free book, make an Arts & Scraps original creation, visit the photo booth, and receive free dental sealants and other dental services.

Parents will be able to have a free health screening from Beaumont Health Care Systems as well as connect with other community partners in Taylor.  Free “bagged” dinners will be available to the first 500 people who attend.

MYERS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL pupils learn about world cultures

Throughout the month of February the students at Myers Elementary School learned about different cultures throughout the world.

Students researched different continents and learned about the different cultures. They shared their findings with the whole school during the weekly “Tribes” meeting.

MYERS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL students receive PBiS rewards

Myers Elementary School students who stayed “green” or “yellow” for the month of February were invited to the monthly PBiS Celebration. The celebration included board games and bubble gum and the kids had a great time.
