The
Taylor High School Griffins girls’ varsity basketball team won their third game
of the season on February 1with a 64- 44 victory over Edsel Ford High School.
The sixty-four points scored by the Griffins represent a school record.
The
Griffins also established a school record for number of field goals made in a
game with 26. The team started the game by jumping out to a 20-8 lead after the
first quarter. Senior Destiny Hines paced the Griffins by scoring 10 of her
team high 15 points in the first quarter.
In
the second quarter, facing foul trouble with many key players, the Griffins
were able to hold on to the lead and went into halftime with a 34-23 lead.
In
the third quarter, the Griffins increased the tempo of the game and were able
to use their press to create easy offensive opportunities.
Junior
guard Avery Busch played great defense in the third quarter and was also able
to score six points in the period.
In
the fourth quarter, led by Oretha Cooper's five points, and they were able to
hold on for a victory.
The
leading scorers for the Griffins were Destiny Hines 15 points (10 in the first
quarter). Amiah Thomas 13 points (3-4 from FT line),
Oretha Cooper 13 points, Avery Busch 6 points (all in the third quarter), Julia Howell 5 points, Betsy Egler 6 points, Brenda Egler 4 points, and Samantha Rickard 2 points (her first basket of the season).

The
JV girls team was victorious against Edsel Ford extending their overall record
to 10-1 at the time.
