Truman
High School is trying to start a new tradition when it comes to football
season. During
one of the final few games of the season the school hosted a cancer awareness
and fundraiser game.
Each
player wore a custom uniform with the name of a community member who was
touched by cancer in some way, and before the game a ceremony was held to honor
cancer survivors and the families of those whose name’s were on the jerseys. The
families got to keep the jersey at the end of the game.
“We’re
so thankful to the coaches and athletes at Truman High School for creating this
opportunity to team up in the fight against cancer. It was a great opportunity
for the students, faculty and community to come together to honor and remember
those impacted by cancer.” said Maureen Rovas, Senior Manager with the American
Cancer Society.
The
game raised more that $3,000 for the charity.
