Mrs.
VanDerworp's third-grade class at McDowell Elementary School is full of future
engineers.
With
the help of some fourth and fifth graders plus Ms. Sue, the wonderful parent
volunteer, they completed a variety of engineering projects. They
connected these activities to real-world engineering.
Working
in teams, they designed a roller coaster for a marble, discovered the strength
of an arch, and created soundproof packaging, as well as doing many other
projects.
They
were also able to do demonstrations for Mrs. Doll's kindergarten class.
As a result of these activities, many students now want to be engineers when
they grow up.
