On
March 25 the Taylor-based Vocational Opportunity Center will host a craft fair
for their clients and members of the community to sell their wares.
The
craft show is free to attend, and will have items made by clients of the
center, and by members of the community who bought spaces to set up.
The
show will be from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. at the center, 22795 North Line Road.
“The
Vocational Opportunity Center is a program for adults with disabilities, we are
all about integrating individuals into their communities,” VOC spokesperson
Nicole Robertson said.
The
VOC is part of Homes of Opportunity Inc. which was founded in 1984 by Lawrence
Maniaci. The business is run as a non-profit organization that provides
supports and services to individuals in twenty-eight different residential
settings throughout Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties.
Robertson
said many of the people they help run their own small, or micro, businesses and
the show is an opportunity for them to sell some of the goods they make. Other
community partners are brought it with a small donation for table space that
will be used to fund programs put on by the center.
“Micro
Enterprise Business are small businesses that are owned and operated by
individuals who attend VOC,” Robertson said.
“The employment coordinator
assists these individuals in creating a business plan based on their needs and
wants, and then will assist in managing money and maintaining merchandise.”
In
addition to their clients other vendors will sell handmade jewelry, Partylite,
Scentsy, Lularoe, Tupperware, Avon, Jamberry, Keep Collective, and Thirty-One
products.
