WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL students drill with the drum line!

West Middle School is moving up!  Students from the West Marching Band had an opportunity to work with students from Kennedy High School along with Drum Line Coach Todd Watts on February 18. 

The students learned techniques to help with their drumming skills along with some marching cadences.  West percussionists will be missed.

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL chorus a big hit at 2016 State of the City Luncheon

The West Middle School Cardinal Chorus, under the direction of David Martin, was a huge hit during last week's 2016 State of the City Address & Charity Luncheon at the Wayne County Community College District Downriver Campus.

The all-girl chorus performed for about 45 minutes, beginning as the doors opened to the event. The affair was held in the Ray Mix Room and was hosted, as usual, by the Rotary Club of Taylor. The Rotary presents the mayor's address each year. 

Since Mayor Rick Sollars took office in late 2013, the SOC has been hosted by the Rotary and served as a benefit for various charities in the City. This year, proceeds will go to the Taylor School Foundation for Educational Excellence and ChristNet. The 50-50 raffle proceeds went to the Penrickton Center for Blind Children.

Last year, over $5,000 was raised for three charities. Combined with the 2014 and now 2016, the annual Rotary-presented SOC will have raised well over $10,000 for local charities, a fact both the Rotary and Mayor Sollars is pleased to announce.

The West Middle School chorus performed a variety of songs during its performance, which was capped by the American National Anthem as the SOC program began. Once they exited the stage, they headed down to Subway in the WCCCD main building for lunch, courtesy of the Rotary.

This marked the second straight year that a musical group from the Taylor School District performed at the State of the City address. Last year, the Hoover Middle School jazz band did a wonderful job of setting the pace for the afternoon affair.

Mayor Sollars, the Rotary and everyone involved in this year's SOC sends out a big "thank you" to David Martin and every member of the group for their efforts this year. They were, in one word, superb!

MYERS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL pupils learn math through artwork

Pupils at Myers Elementary School are having a great time learning about math through art. They are practicing measurement skills to create beautiful works of art.

RANDALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Kennedy students visit to mentor in reading

Thursdays at Randall Elementary School you will see John F. Kennedy High School students reading with Randall students. The Taylor Reading Corps has high school students traveling to the elementary schools to help those students who might not have an adult volunteer.

During the annual Halloween Spooktacular this past October, Randall students donated $1 to trick or treat. That money went into buying books for the high school reading buddies to share with the students. The Mustangs would like to thank the Kennedy students for coming into the school and spending their time with the children.

RANDALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL celebrates 100 days

Randall Elementary School celebrated the 100th Day of School recently! Mrs. Holstein’s kindergarteners ate a special snack to celebrate. They also did 100 exercises, made a silly hat and created a self-portrait of being 100 years old. They also made a class Olaf using 100 cotton balls. They loved building a snowman inside.
