Truman High School jumped out to an early lead and then held on down the stretch for a pre-district football victory in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 playoffs Friday night in Allen Park.
Truman, now 8-2, will travel to unbeaten Downriver League champion Wyandotte (10-0) on Friday (Nov. 8) during the second round of the playoffs, likely for a 7 p.m. start.
It marked the second straight year that Truman has eliminated Allen Park, which couldn't overcome five turnovers during the first-round game. Devon McGregor paced the Cougars with 159 years on 18 carries.
Wyandotte beat Ypsilanti Lincoln, 45-40, in the opening round.

This is the fourth time that Truman and AP have faced off in the past two seasons. Both are members of the Downriver League. The Jags (7-2) upset the Cougars, 21-14, in Week 6 of the season.
The winner of Friday's district game will take on the winner of the Wyandotte Roosevelt-Ypsilanti Lincoln game in the second round.

Parents were invited into the classroom to play games and carve pumpkins with the children.
A group of band members at Hoover Middle School have started dressing for success! On Wednesdays, that is.
Each Wednesday, the band members dress to the nines. "Formal Wednesdays" were the idea of the students, according to Principal Michelle Tocco. They have done it for several weeks.
Mr. Bergler, the band director, has even joined in the fun -- he's pictured here in the front row with the green shirt and saxophone.
What, no sunglasses? Only kidding ...
Visitors attending the recent Hoover Middle School Parent-Teacher Conferences received an added bonus -- they got to judge some unique work accomplished by enrichment class students in the school.
The students in each enrichment class made a life-size scarecrow, which were displayed during the conferences. Parents visiting the school voted for the winner, which was done by Mr. Arseneau's class (above).
Constitution Day was celebrated in September and one of the ways that Hoover Middle School honored the occasion was by making posters.
Each enrichment class was responsible for creating a poster to represent a particular part of the U.S. Constitution or branch of government and displayed them in the halls of the school.
For the second straight year, Fifth Third Bank has come to the rescue of Myers Elementary School children in need of winter clothing.
Fifth Third recently donated 40 new coats, hats and gloves to the school. Children in the program were based on referrals from parents and staff.
Bank employees went to Myers on Tuesday (Oct. 22) to personally distribute the winter items. And the children were thankful and excited.
And they will be warm this winter!
