Several Nok Hockey Champions were recently crowned at Blair Moody Elementary School.
The overall champion for the fourth and fifth grade was Dider Ngambo with 8,154 points. The fifth grade champions were Ngambo and Jerome Lewis (8,153).
The fourth grade girls' hockey champs were Summer, Alexis, Josalyn, Rose and Alayna (8,166) with the fifth grade girls' champs were Jaeda, Nala, Dominique, Ijana, Haily and Taylor with 8,156.
The fourth grade boys' champions include Kaden, Evan, Marreon, Kyle, Nigel and Charles (8,170), while the fifth grade boys' champs were DeShawn, Justin, Tyler, Fozi and Kenneth with 8,161.
Physical Education Teacher Mr. Brinson said he was very proud of all of the students who displayed good sportsmanship throughout the hockey tournament. "Congratulations to the victors," he said.
The Student Council at Blair Moody Elementary School has been busy.
Recently, they raised money for the Taylor Animal Shelter. They were able to donated tons of food for needy pets and delivered it during a visit, when they toured the facility.
The council also participated in Earth Day activities at Heritage Park. It was then that they planted trees.
Myers Elementary School pupils took part in the Earth Day Celebration recently at Heritage Park.
They joined other elementary schools in planting some new trees. There was also a ribbon-cutting at the new playscape, which the children had a chance to play on.
McDonald's was the food of the day for lunch. The event was attended by Mayor Jeff Lamarand, Supt. Diane Allen and Asst. Supt. Teresa Winnie.
Jim "Basketball" Jones visited Hoover Middle School recently to share a message about positive behaviors and how they influence lives. According to some who attended the assembly, the event was uplifting and captivated the students in attendance.
In 15 years, Jones has headlined 15,000 assemblies and inspired countless lives.
He discusses anti-bullying, character education, state testing motivation and positive lift choices. His program underscores helping individuals develop and harness their inner strengths and positive mind set to lead better, more fulfilling lives.
Diagnosed early in life with dyslexia, he struggled to find himself in the special education curriculum. By the time he was a senior in high school, he was still reading at a second grade level. His mother helped him keep up with his lessons by reading to him. Thanks to one of his teacher, Irene Schuster, he was able to double his reading rate during his final year in high school. A solid GPA got him into Bowling Green State University.
In college, he excelled. He was the pledge class president of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Phi Eta Sigma freshman honorary treasurer, Beta Gamma Sigma National Honorary inductee, Dean's Advisory Council finance department representative, College of Business Board of Appeals representatives, president of Entrepreneurship Unlimited, a player on the club volleyball team, captured the outstanding finance student award, the Wall Street Journal Student Award and was the outstanding graduating senior in the college of business.
He loved basketball, beginning in the sixth grade. He helped him fit in with others -- be creative and let his dreams roam. He became so good at it that he was asked to perform his tricks at NBA games.

Holland Elementary School's "Big Boy Celebrity Server Night" was held recently and raised $840 for new school library books.
The event was held at the Big Boy Restaurant on Eureka Road, where owners Rich and Marybeth Swor welcome the event each year.
Pupils put tips in a jar and bang a gong each time a donation is made. It was fun for everyone involved. The school staff waits tables and visits with families.
Holland staff and students wish to thank everyone involved.
The Chopping Block Restaurant, located in the Titan Alternative High School building, will be making cookies for the Titan and Career Center Conference.

The Titan Alternative High School softball team is getting ready for another busy season after capturing the Michigan Alternative Athletic Association state championship for the past three seasons.
