DECA HOSTS 'There's UNITY in our Community' walk-a-thin

The Truman DECA organization is hosting a walk-a-thin on  October 10 (rain day is October 11) to promote the merging of Kennedy and Truman high schools into a single facility.

DECA continues to seek sponsors for the event. See the attached image.

MCDOWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL lucky to have such outstanding readers

McDowell Elementary School has some great readers! Recently they had their first "Student of the Week" assembly, where children are honored who have done a great job in all the classes, specials, music and Library.  Here are the "Red Hot Readers" from the Library who won the raffle at their grade level. Congratulations to them and all the students that are doing their best at our school! So glad they are on the McDowell team!

At McDowell Elementary School they have a lots of ways to cool off, but one of the best was listening to a read aloud (Wonder by R. J. Palacio,) in the air-conditioned library. This is Mrs. Alef's fourth-fifth class relaxing!

HOLLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL puts new board to good use

Holland Elementary School students from Mrs. Holstein's class are putting the new Clevertouch board to good work.  They are excited about learning this year and even use the board for a “brain break.”

MYERS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL gets visit from the fire department

The Taylor Fire Department visited Myers Elementary School to educate students on fire safety.  

Fire Chief Stephen Portis and Deputy Chief Stan Pochron came to Myers along with a firefighter and fire truck equipped to show the students what is carried to do the job.  

This was a fun and very informative demonstration. 

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL students visit the stars

Reach for the stars – figuratively! That's just what West Middle School eighth-grade science students did on September 15.

The Ford Astronomy Club visited the school and brought 10 telescopes for viewing. Fortunately, the weather cooperated. Clear skies with minimal clouds were with us.  The club members set their telescopes up so the student could clearly see the sun, sunspots, solar prominence, sun storms, craters on the moon and Venus.

     

As the club members interacted with the students, additional information was given and questions were answered.   Club members gave each student solar glasses to protect their eyes from solar radiation.  

     

The class appreciated the Ford Astronomy Club's visit.  The information presented coincides with our science curriculum. But most importantly, their visit has inspired us to continue to stargaze.
