HOLLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: A visit from DTE!

Fourth and fifth graders at Holland Elementary School recently had a visit from some engineers from DTE.  

The engineers helped students create a wind racer from a bag of few materials.  The students really enjoyed testing their racers with the fan and seeing which design went the farthest.

TAYLOR READING CORPS: Come one, come all to Celebrity Server Night!

The Taylor Reading Corps will be holding its annual Celebrity Server Night at Big Boys Restaurant at 10450 Telegraph Road in Taylor on Monday, March 30.

The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m.

Proceeds go to the TRC, a non-profit organization that recruits, trains and supervises adult reading mentors to work in the Taylor School District.

Get a good dinner that night and help out a worthy cause!

Holland Elementary School participated in the Literacy Luau at Kennedy High School on Thursday, March 12. Guests who visited the Holland booth received a “Cat in the Hat” hat, and had the opportunity to make a bookmark!

TAYLOR PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: TRC, Sheriffs lend a hand

Taylor Parks Elementary School partnered with the Taylor Reading Corps and Wayne County Sheriff's Office to promote March National Awareness Month.

Both organizations have partnered to promote March National Reading Awareness Month in eight Taylor Elementary Schools.  Over 40 Wayne County Deputy Sheriffs and Sheriff Benny Napoleon have committed to Read Aloud to students In the Taylor School District. 

 Reading Aloud is a key way to introduce new vocabulary to children.  When children are read to for 15 minutes every day from birth, these children will be ready to learn when they enter kindergarten, they will have the literacy skills needed to succeed in school, and they will be prepared for a productive and meaningful life after school.

TAYLOR PARKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Grandparents Day!

Taylor Parks Elementary School once again celebrated Grandparents Day recently. 

Ah, but the name is deceiving, not only Grandparents are invited but aunts, uncles, neighbors, anyone who is special to spend a few hours with their special student. 

All kindergarten and first graders spent time with their guests doing crafts, sharing snacks, touring the building, having a special portrait made by Lifetouch, and a visit to the Scholastic Book Fair. 

Memories were made on this day.
