Arts & Scraps continues to be a popular program in the Taylor School District. Last week, the interactive family program was held during a parent night at Hoover Middle School.
Arts & Scraps is a non-profit organization that uses 28 tons of recycled industrial materials to help 275,000 people of all ages and abilities each year think, create and learn.
According to Principal Michelle Tocco, the program provided a great interactive family activity at Hoover, with over 100 people participating. In addition, the Jazz Band played for everyone during dinner.
The Kennedy High School newsletter, Eagle News, was published for November.
Highlights of the nine-page publication include notes from Principal Tommie Saylor's desk; news from each department, such as match, PE, social studies, business, JROTC, music and English; topics from family and consumer service; and Counselor's Corner.
Truman High School Principal Melissa Skopczynski circulated the most recent edition of the Cougar Connection.
Highlights include end-of-trimester notes; JROTC honors; and Aaron Foster Smith signing his letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Detroit!
Imagine what you would feel like if you were honored in the school gym with the entire student population listening and watching! That's what happens every week at McDowell Elementary School.
McDowell celebrates its "Student of the Week" award each week, with parents and families invited. The staff talks about the accomplishments of the winners as each pupil takes their place in a lineup of achievers.
Plenty of smiles all around!
The Taylor School District is now offering students great new online programs focused on reading, math, science and social studies skills.
A teacher from each school met Friday to learn how to use the programs. Reading Eggs is targeted at pupils K-2 and Reading Express is for pupils 3-5.
Study Island covers all four core areas. Students can use these programs at school or at home.
Study Island parent letters have already been sent home, while letters about Reading Eggs are on their way.
Please encourage your child to spend time each day with these programs.
Preschool classes recently had a Family Fun Night, sponsored and paid for by the Taylor Reading Corps.
The program was called "Developing Strong Writing Skills Through Finger Funatics," and staff worked with parents and children to teach ways to encourage both fine and gross motor development.
The group also talked about all the important connections between the body being active and the brain developing.
Mrs. Fesler's and Mrs. Long's preschool classes recently took a trip to the Lake Erie Metropark and Marshland Museum.
The classes had a beautiful day and learned plenty of things from Naturalist Mr. Paul. The children learned about the development of frogs -- and even dressed up like a frog, did some crafts and took a nature hike.
