Symphonic band to perform at MSBOA State Band Festival
Look for the Truman High School Symphonic Band at Redford Thurston High School on April 25.
The band will play at 9 p.m. as part of the Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association's State Band Festival.
MSBOA festivals are an opportunity for units from member schools to perform a program of three pieces for adjudication, one of which must be from MSBOA's required list. District-level festivals are held at the end of February through the beginning of March. Each group is evaluated by three performance judges and one sight-reading judge.
After being graded, ensembles that earn an overall 1 rating (superior) qualify for the State Band Festival. During this competition, bands are held to an even higher standard. Those grading out 1 or 2 receive a certificate.
In addition to the Redford performance, a pep band will be going to Gleaners Food Bank in Detroit in early May to perform during a press conference for the letter carrier food drive.
