Teens are using vaping devices in record numbers. America’s teens report a dramatic increase in their use of vaping devices in just a single year, with 37.3 percent of 12th graders reporting “any vaping” in the past 12 months, compared to just 27.8 percent in 2017. Last week, the “Students Leading Students” hung some anti-vaping posters in all of the Taylor High School student bathrooms.

TAYLOR PARKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL welcomes representative, mayor for reading month

It is March is Reading Month, and Taylor Parks Elementary School had several guest readers visit this week.

Students from Mrs. Overby's and Mrs. Young's classes enjoyed a visit from State Representative Alex Garza on March 4. He read,  "There was an old lady who swallowed some books!" He also read to Mr. Young's third-grade class.

Mayor Rick Sollars visited on March 5 and read to the first- and second-grade classes. The students really enjoyed the book – the mayor read "Green eggs and ham.”

In the coming weeks, Senator Erika Geiss will also be coming the Taylor Parks Elementary School to read to students.

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL students roll into Lincoln Park

On March 6, Mrs. Gibson‘s West Middle School science classes went to the Lincoln Park Roller Rink. The students were treated to an engaging STEM lesson on forces of motion. The students roller skated after a pizza lunch. It was great to see many of the students who had never skated before become proficient. The afternoon ended with a dance party in which two of our students won a skating party to attend with friends at a later date. The staff and school thank the Lincoln Park Roller Rink for their great accommodations and look forward to returning next school year.
