TAYLOR SCHOOL DISTRICT representatives speak at State of the City Luncheon

The Taylor School District was invited to speak at the State of the City Address February 21. There was a focus on the district as a whole, but especially the merging of the high schools and all of the wonderful new initiatives that have been put in place.

Representing the district were Board of Education President Debbie Stellini, Assistant Superintendent Mary Ann Cyr, Principal Melissa Skopczynski, and senior class presidents Julia Howelland Marissa Ogea.


The entire SOC presentation was about 90 minutes, about 15 of which were devoted to the district. Thank you to the City of Taylor for the opportunity to showcase our school and district.

TAYLOR PARKS ELEMENTARY builds learning through P & J


At Taylor Parks Elementary, Mrs. Ambrosia's students and Building Improvement Coach, Mrs. Augustyn have peanut butter and jelly time every Wednesday. During Peanut Butter and Jelly time students cooperatively work with their partner doing various language arts.

The Taylor High School Boys and Girls Bowling teams made us all proud by being the first ever Griffin teams to qualify for states! Well done, and best of luck rolling strikes at states!

The new tardy/attendance policy has been approved by the Board of Educaiton and is now posted on our website and www.taylorschools.net/taylor-high-school/

Parents should take a minute to review this information with your student. You will also now be receiving a telephone call if your child is marked absent or tardy for one or more periods during the day.

Please use parent/student connect to keep track of your students’ attendance and make sure you are calling in to excuse their absence.

TAYLOR HIGH SCHOOL track and field begins March 11

The Taylor High School track and field practices for both girls and boys will begin at 3:45 p.m. March 11.

Students of any and all abilities are welcome.


Anyone interested in participating should have a current sports physical on file. For more information, see Mr. Putnam in Room 419.

TAYLOR HIGH SCHOOL girls basketball team keeps pace

The Taylor High School Varsity Girls Basketball team recently won its fourth game of the season with a 52-28 victory over Southgate Anderson on Tuesday February 19.

The team jumped out to a 14-6 lead after the first quarter and extended the lead to 26-11 at halftime. After three quarters of play, the team led 37-22 before holding on for a 52-28 victory.

The following players led the team:
Betsy Egler 12 points (4-4 from FT line)
Oretha Cooper 15 points
Amiah Thomas 13 points
Brenda Egler 4 points
(The team was 18-24 from the FT line.)


In addition, all eleven players on the team saw action in this victory.

TAYLOR HIGH SCHOOL Winter Band Concert earns big turnout


The Taylor High School Winter Band concert took place on February 21 at Wayne County Community College. It was a great conference with a wonderful turnout.


JOHNSON EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER gets special visit


The tooth fairy visited the children in Mrs. Sute’s class at Johnson Early Childhood Center. The fairy helped them learn how to keep their teeth healthy by brushing their teeth, flossing, drinking lots of water and eating healthy food. They even got to practice brushing with Rex the Dinosaur!
