RANDALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL participates in book club
Mrs.
Brewster, one of Randall Elementary School’s kindergarten teachers, asked
parents, staff, and community members to join in on a sponsorship from
Scholastic Book Clubs.
Just $9
per child would allow each student to receive one book per month for the
entire year. Mrs. Brewster's class received its first book and were
so excited to open them up. Thank you to everyone who participated and
for putting a smile on a kindergartner's face!
TAYLOR HIGH SCHOOL engineering students complete project
Students
in Mr. Bolderick’s Taylor High School engineering class completed their first
project.
They
had to build a house that would enclose the largest possible volume using only
60 baseball cards. Here is one of my groups with one of the best projects.
TAYLOR HIGH SCHOOL offers confidential ability to aid those in need
The
pantry is located in room 154 and open Tuesdays and Thursdays during fifth
through seventh hours (emergency situations are the exception).
It
will have non-perishable food items and gently used brand name clothing. For homecoming, it had many formal
dresses. The pantry is confidential way for students to get food each week for their
families through our backpack program.
Students
are referred by staff members (or through a self-referral program). There is a
donation box in the main office near the staff mailboxes if you would like to
donate.
The
pantry is completely run on donations, no school funds support this
effort. For more information,
please see Mrs. Kluk, THS Social Worker.

RANDALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL parents send positive message
Randall
Elementary School parents are promoting positivity that started with an idea
and ended with some painted walls and doors in the girls and boys bathroom.
Some
of the parents took time out recently to paint. They can't wait to see the reaction
of the students when they see it. Thank you to the parents for giving students
something to smile about. Also, a huge “thank you” to Sherwin-Williams Paint
Store on Van Born for the donation of the paint.

TAYLOR PARKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL pupils informed by police, fire fighters
Taylor
Parks Elementary School had the Taylor Fire Department and the Taylor Police
Department in honor of Fire Prevention Month. The firemen gave the
students a lesson on fire safety as well as learning about the equipment on the
fire truck. Police officers let the students sit inside the patrol car
and explained what all the equipment in the car is used for. Thank you to the
Taylor Police officers and the Taylor Fire Fighters.
WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL students receive important visit from DTE
Recently
two representatives from DTE Energy spoke to sixth grade science students at
West Middle School. The representatives, Patty and Bridget, explained how
energy is produced and sent into our homes. The representatives told us
electricity is generated mainly using coal, nuclear power, natural gas and
biomass.
In
addition, Patty and Bridget gave our students several safety tips including
staying 25 feet from power lines and when you smell natural gas in your home,
leave immediately and call 911.
Finally,
the DTE Representatives presented great money saving strategies to the sixth
graders. They told the students that changing to LED bulbs could save their
household $10 a year per bulb. Also, using power strips will cut down on
phantom loads. The representatives encouraged the students to take five-minute
showers to save on natural resources, electricity and water.
We
are grateful to the DTE representatives, Patty and Bridget, for partnering with
West Middle School. They did an amazing job interacting with sixth grade
students and answering their questions. Their presentation was informative and
entertaining. By putting their suggestions into practice we will help save the
planet and our money.

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL receives visit from Ford Motor Astronomy Club
Recently
gentleman from the Ford Motor Astronomy Club made the annual visit to West
Middle School. The club interacted with eighth-grade science students from the
classes of Mrs. Pasek-Colley and Ms. Gibson.
Club
members brought with them four high-powered telescopes, a variety of valuable
meteorites and a wealth of information to share with our students.
Thankfully,
the weather cooperated and the clouds parted. Students were able to see the sun
and at times a sliver of the planet Venus. The club members did a wonderful job
of explaining and answering student questions.
These
gentlemen gave of their time and expertise to further the education of eighth
grade students. West Middle School is very grateful and looks forward to
partnering with the Ford Motor Astronomy Club in the future.
