WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL students learn about plastics

On February 23 and 26, Mrs. Elizabeth Egan, a packaging engineer, spoke to West Middle School seventh-grade science students about the chemistry and importance of plastics.

Through Hands-On activities and demonstrations, Mrs. Egan educated students on the various properties of plastics. Her visit enlightened the students on how important plastics are to our daily life.

Plastics are made of polymers. These polymers can take on many forms such as solids or liquids. Combining of chemicals that make up the various polymers can cause endothermic or exothermic reactions, when these polymers are linked together.

Mrs. Egan's visit was very informative. In addition, Mrs. Egan's visit encouraged all students, especially girls, to consider plastics engineering as a career.

She spoke of educational opportunities at Schoolcraft College and Ferris State University. More information for careers in plastics can be found online at the above-mentioned college websites.

Students enjoyed Mrs Egan's visit and were attentive and appreciative. West Middle School is always looking for opportunities to bring real world experiences into the classroom.

TAYLOR PARKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL gets Mancino's treat!

Staff at Taylor Parks Elementary School received an early gift Friday: A wonderful catered luncheon by Mancino's of Taylor. Pasta, salads, and garlic bread provided a great excuse for staff to have a final get together before the break. A big “shout out” to our own resident elf, Kristin Salas, Positive School Climate/Culture Liason, for arranging the luncheon.
