U.S. Navy Midshipman Robert Martinez, who attends the Naval
Academy at Annapolis, recently visited Kennedy High School.
He visited Teacher Amber McNew's MCAN class and discussed the
Naval Academy – what life is like there and how he made the decision to attend.
Martinez attended elementary school in Taylor School District, and
is Board of Education Trustee Jamee McCoy's nephew.
Students found his talk very interesting.
TRUMAN HIGH SCHOOL holds December clothing drive
Carly Lundgren-Barnard announces that the
annual clothing drive is beginning in December. The group is also doing an ice
cream party for the 5th hour Truman High School class that donates the most.
The contest will be December 1-22, and is
looking for items that Truman students can wear, so encourage people to donate
gently used or even new items.
TRUMAN HIGH SCHOOL: DECA group welcomes the 'challenge'
Truman High
School DECA is excited to bring you another year of the DECA Idea Challenge, a
fast-paced experiential learning exercise that dares students to find an
innovative new use for a common, everyday item in just eight days!
The
item to be used in the challenge is rubber bands.
A
premier event of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), the competition is a fun
and exciting opportunity for students to be imaginative and resourceful while
learning about the entrepreneurial process. To participate our students
must:
- Organize a team
- Generate an original use for the challenge item
- Create a video pitch of invention
- Submit entry online by the deadline
We
also participated in the Taylor Winterfest holiday parade. Truman and Kennedy
DECA students, along with Truman class of 2019 walked with us and threw
out candy to the community.
CAREER CENTER: Rotary Club makes donations
The Rotary Club of Taylor recently made key donations to the Career Center.
The
Rotary Club meets on Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. at Wayne County Community College
District second floor conference Room 12 of the Educational & Performing
Arts Center
The
club is very active in the district. The Blair Moody School Hoop House Service
Project is an example of that, as was World Polio Day, when the Rotary held a “End
Polio Now”.
Rotarian
Linda Newsome, former member of the Board of Education, led the presentation
about polio to Taylor students, before the students collected coins from their
student body to give to the End Polio Now campaign.
