TAYLOR PARKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL welcomes grandparents

Kindergarten and first-grade students at Taylor Parks Elementary School welcomed very special guests to their school recently. It was grandparent’s day, an annual event. Grandparents or special guests are invited to join the class, do projects with their student, have portraits taken together, take tours of the building and visit the Scholastic Book Fair. These visits are memory makers.

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL Jazz Band rocks the luau

On March 10, the West Middle School Jazz Band made its debut performance at the district’s annual Literacy Luau, held at Kennedy High School. 

The group was started this year by Mrs. Farmer, and performed rock and roll favorites like Wipe Out, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Rock Around The Clock and theme from The Mission Impossible. 

MCDOWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL features 'super reader'

Every day at McDowell Elementary School a marvelous and miraculous event occurs multiple times. This event is when students move up in their reading levels. What an accomplishment it is and we love to celebrate it. This young man has moved up many levels and was thrilled to show off his certificate!

Way to go "Super Reader!" 

MCDOWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL listens to orchestra

Michigan Philharmonic Orchestra recently to McDowell Elementary School. Students from Mrs. VanDerworp and Ms. Blair's third-grade classes had a wonderful experience listening and watching the orchestra. The students were given instruction on the four instrument families and listened intently to music ranging from Mozart to the theme song of Star Wars. Everyone really appreciated them coming to the school.
