FUNDRAISER: Benefit scheduled for new Farmer's Market


The all-new Taylor Farm Market is opening in the Sheridan Center at Heritage Park this June. 
The farm market committee is holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser to benefit the effort from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 26, at the William Ford Senior Center, 6750 Troy.

Cost is $10 per person (although we'll accept more!). No reservations needed. Just walk right up. 

All donations go directly into the farm market.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING: Forum to focus on worldwide issue


"Human Trafficking: Extremely Wrong and Incredibly Close," will be the focus of a free forum at 6 p.m. Monday, February 23, at the Wayne County Community College District's Downriver Campus.

Sponsored by the Taylor Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force and funded in part by the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority, the event will feature Theresa Flores, LSW. MS, a survivor, author and victim advocate.

Learn how to recognize a victim and build coalitions against a growing problem in SE Michigan. Invite others to join in this opportunity.

DOG PARK FUNDRAISER: Bowling at Skore Lanes February 21


The Taylor Dog Park Committee is holding a bowling fundraiser at Skore Lanes on Ecorse Road on February 21.
It will be held from 6-9 p.m. and $20 will get you pizza, pop, bowling and shoe rental. There will also be a 50/50, bake sale and basket raffle.

Bring a bag of dog or cat food for the Taylor Animal Shelter and you receive a free entry in the basketball raffle.

TAYLOR NORTHEAST: Registration continues February 21


Taylor Northeast Little League we will be offering registration dates rom noon until 4 p.m. EVERY Saturday during the month of February. 

Cost on these February Saturdays is $45 (and you must participate in league's fundraiser). 

Discounts are available for multiple children registering from same family. Leagues are open to boys and girls ages 4-16. Must provide proof that you live in the Little League's boundaries or go to school within those boundaries.

JOB FAIR: Being held February 21 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.


The City of Taylor's Golf, Parks and Recreation Department will be holding the second and final seasonal job fair on Saturday, February 21 at the Lakes of Taylor.

The February 21 fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lakes of Taylor, 25505 Northline, west of Telegraph.

The golf courses are seeking to fill the following: players' assistants, ranger/starters, pro shop operators, line cooks, dishwashers, servers and snack bar attendants.

The Sportsplex is seeking to fill the following: building supervisor, Zamboni driver, event staff, concession staff and building cleaner.

The Recreation Center is seeking the following: front desk personnel and weight room attendee.

Northwest Pool will be seeking life guards and general staff.

Park maintenance and the Petting Farm will also be accepting applications.

NORTHWEST LITTLE LEAGUE: Register February 21


Last chance to register for the Northwest Little League is Saturday Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the clubhouse (9350 Westlake). 

Cost is $25 a player or $40 for family members residing in same household. Please bring child's birth certificate and three proofs of residency. Depending on open spots, will have sign ups on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. until the divisions are full.

BASEBALL CLINICS: Scheduled at recreation center


Baseball Clinics have been scheduled for the Taylor Recreation Center on Saturday, March 14. 

The first clinic will run from 10-11 a.m. for players ages 5-8. Price is $25. The second clinic follows from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. for players ages 9-12. Price is $35. The final clinic will be held between 2:30-4:30 p.m. for players ages 13-17. Price is $35.

Fundamentals, hitting, fielding, pitching and baseball IQ will be emphasized. Players should bring their own your own equipment, including helmet and wear running shoes. 

Coaches will include:

Brian Tellish – Former Collegiate Level Baseball Player and Elite Travel Coach.

TVLA: Baker College makes a visit


TVLA hosts Baker College of Allen Park to help promote post-secondary vision among the students.

Steve Peterson, Vice President for Admissions, Allen Park campus, spoke to TVLA students about strategies for success and important considerations when planning for post secondary education. Students had the opportunity to explore college and trade options, identify thriving careers and reflect on important considerations when choosing a post-secondary institution.

This was Mr. Peterson’s second annual presentation at TVLA. The TVLA staff networks with several community partners in the downriver area to provide opportunities that are aligned with its vision of productive independence for students. 



WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL: Band and chorus perform at districts


Over 50 students from the West Middle School Band and Chorus participated in the MSVMA and MSBOA district solo and ensemble festivals in January and February.  The musicians celebrated with an ice cream social held in their honor.  The staff is proud of the students who represented West so well, all achieving "good" or "excellent" ratings!

WEATHER ALERT: Taylor Recreation Center opens as warming center on Sunday, February 15, due to DTE outages


The Taylor Recreation Center will open at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, February 15, as a warming center, thanks to reported power outages in the City of Taylor.
The center is located at 22805 Goddard, near the corner of Goddard Road and Pardee.

Residents are welcome to bring towels, etc. in case they want to sauna and/or shower at the facility. Workout areas will be available, including the cardio room, walking track, etc. If you plan on showering or changing at the facility, please remember to bring a lock for you locker, if you have one.

The Taylor Sportsplex will also be open from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. if anyone wants to go there. There are open skating hours available today as well as other sporting events scheduled, and residents are welcome into the building to enjoy the events, use the concession stands, etc.

As of 7:45 this morning (February 15), DTE was reporting between 500 and 1,600 outages in the southeastern Taylor area. Some were reported just to the west of Southland Mall down Pardee Street. A wider band was reported to the east of the mall, stretching from just north of Heritage Park all the way south into Brownstown and the Sibley Road region. That band appears to run along I-75, from just north of Northline Road and Allen  In Taylor, that band stretches west to Pardee.

South of the City, that same band stretches from I-75 west to almost Beech Daly.

DTE crews are on there way Downriver to correct the problem.

Weather expects in the Detroit area are calling for a wind chill warning until noon. It is currently minus-7 degrees. Today's high will be 7 degrees with a low of minus-19. It is predicted to remain very cold throughout the week.
